So I have been WAITING for this moment! I’m super excited to bring you this blog! Sure the other award shows are fun for fashion but there’s nothing like the oscars!
As for the actual show I thought it was interesting….I liked the new format of introducing the nominees for best supporting and lead actors and actresses with bringing back past winners. And the montages were most of the part good (LOVED the comedy of 2008 review). I will say the “Musicals are back” number was interesting…I LOVE Baz Lurmann and kudos to him for putting all the music together! I think the casting could have been different- keep hugh jackman (only because he was the host) and the background dancers and singers but scratch Beyonce, Zac, Vanessa, Amanda and whoever her partner was…..they added NOTHING.
Alright- but on to the more important issues from the evening….what everyone was WEARING! So here are some of my favs- both pretty and ugly…
Angelina Jolie- Oh my goodness I’m so thankful she didn’t wear a SACK!! See previous blogs for that comentary….but it was simple, elegant, and very Oscar appropriate. True there are other dresses that I love more than this one, but I’m just happy she wore something that fit her!
Whoopi Goldberg – Seriously?? What were you thinking?? Whoever told her that it was ok to wear a who lotta leopard print to the Oscars needs to have their head checked out. And no offense, you aren’t a size zero, so the print isn’t going to help you look that way either. and the sunglasses?? unless you are trying to not see everyone’s disgusted look on their face when they see you walking by in that dress leave them in the limo!
oh it just makes me gag looking at it so I’m going to move on before I get sick!
Tarji P. Henson – I LOVE this dress! I always get nervous when people choose to wear white dresses to events because part of me always thinks they will end up looking like a bride. but this one does not and it looks so great on her! The designer was spot on with making it look light and airy but not to the point where it could look prom tuele (sp?) tacky! Go Benjamin Button’s Mom go!
Sophia Loren- Sophia- this has nothing to do with you and your career. I consider you one of the greats when it comes to being one of those classic hollywood beauties… with that said…..This I hate. The color reminds me of some tupperware pieces that my mom has from 1974 (no offense mom to your dishware- I’m glad its lasted this long!) and the dress itself looks like it could have been sitting in an attic being eaten by moths the day before. it’s just yucky! throw it back in the attic and let the moths have it!
Sarah Jessica Parker – One word- Lovely! It’s seriously a Cinderella dress for 2009! I think the belt part could have been handled a bit differently, but it gives it that modern edge that keeps it from looking too disney.
Reese Witherspoon– Ummm…..what were we thinking here? Very dissapointed. The blue is pretty…but I’m confused as to what starts and what stops where.. and I don’t get the straps thing. I’m just confused….and you’re blending into the stage a bit. not the best choice I’m sorry.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman- Now I usually don’t critique men because they have it easy and all they have to do is wear a nice well fitted tux and they are good to go. Some however think it’s ok to step out of that box. Phil here is one of them. I’m sorry Phil- you are wrong. Leave the beret at home for your Bob Ross moments…don’t bring it along for your Academy Award Moments.
Penelope Cruz- Do I hear wedding bells somewhere? Where is the cake? Oh wait nevermind. Apparently Penelope confused her Academy Award invite for a wedding invite….and wanted to show up the bride by wearing white (side fashion note….never ever wear white to someones wedding unless it is specifically asked by the bride and groom!)
And here is a classic case of a white dress looking like a wedding dress. nuff said. It’s pretty but save it for the isle.
Nicole Kidman – She is almost becoming my next Angelina Jolie- one of those gorgeous actresses that should be stunning us on the red carpet but then they make choices like this and I wonder WHY?? I know Hollywood is in love with the Obamas….but that doesn’t give anyone the right to try to copy Michelle Obama’s inaugural ballgown!
Natalie Portman- Its a pretty color, but I feel like this could have been pulled from the Star Wars Prequel’s costume closet. Is a Star Wars 2.5 in the making? All we need is a funky fake hair wig and we are set! I’m sure Jar Jar is looking for something to do….
Miley Cyrus- So apparently things at Disney are getting rough…because they are now subjecting their factory produced childstars to also be Disney characters. And here Miley must have just gotten off her shift of portraying the Little Mermaid herself Ariel!
OR- she wanted to pull a Scarlet O-Hara/Gone with the Wind thing and make a dress out of all the fancy placemats and tablecloths from her Nash-Vegas Mansion!
OR! maybe Disney is doing an underwater remake of Gone with the wind and this is one of the costumes!!
I choose the last option, but whatever the reasoning….it’s ugly.
Kate Winslet- Yay congrats to her for winning best actress! I’m not completely crazy about this dress though. I’ve seen way worse, but I’ve also seen way better. Still love ya Kate and everything you do!
Jessica Biel- OK I have a theory about this mess……
She was lounging in sweats with her sweetie Justin Timberlake and as they were casually channel surfing the red carpet interviews come across the screen. She suddenly yells Oh SNAP! I have to be there to talk about animation stuff! and jt is all say wha?? but it didn’t matter. she jumps off the couch and races around to try to get herself ready but she didn’t have anything to wear so she ran over to Eva Mendes house to borrow her last awards dress that was unfortunately at the bottom of the laundry pile. that didn’t matter though. she raced and got dressed, grabed the limo and did her hair and makeup in there (since her lipstick was a bit joker-esque) and made it just in time to be the sloppiest dressed of the night.
The end.
Jennifer Aniston – I really hope Brad was doing a double take at Jennifer when he saw her in this dress!! She looked so pretty! Way to rock it and look better than Angelina!
Heidi Klum- Another fun story!
Heidi has been going through Postpartum Project Runway depression and so she decided she was going to create her own gown so she can rate herself on the runway. She obiviously did well at Mood for choosing a fabulous fabric, but unfortunately there’s more to constructing a dress than just wrapping it around yourself and hoping for the best. I’m sorry, Seal and your children may have thought you were in….but I say you are OUT!
Frieda Pinto – ” Hi…I’m Frieda….I’m not as awkward as before…..this is my third award show….but I’m still kinda awkward……see my grandma sleve?…..it makes this dress awkward…..I just didn’t want to disappoint my awkward fans…..thanks!”
Evan Rachel Wood – And now a conversation overheard on the carpet…..
” whoa….what was that? is that a ghost over there? oh snap it looks like a naked ghost! Is that even allowed here?…oh wait…..no that’s just Evan Rachel Wood.”
OK- either go get a spray tan or choose a dress that’s not the same shade of your pastey whiteness.
Beyonce Knowles- I don’t know what was funnier from last night….this dress or watching the musical number with my mom and laughing at how too bootylicious she looked in the red thing she was wearing. I think it’s a tie.
I bet if she was standing next to the statue behind her people might get her confused with Mr. Oscar.
Anne Hathaway – And finally we have another pretty dress that I love! And she did the glitter tastefully too. Also- something that has nothing to do with the dress….I loved how she cheered when Kate Winslet won Best actress when she was up for that same award! That was too cool!
Zac Efron- 3 words….Pee Wee Herman.
Adrian Brody- Everytime the camera shot him I about gagged. I’m sorry. This is nasty. He looked better in the Summer of Sam than he does right here! You know how when you were young and they taught you in kindergarten to stay away from strangers? He looks like the stranger I always pictured in my head….and I’m sure I had nightmares about him too.
so in short-wash and cut the hair, shave the face and go take a shower. please. that’s all we ask.
