yeah yeah- I know it’s late- but you know what? I dont care! wanna know why? I’m on vacation!! YAY!!

OK- so its not the glamorous sandy beach vacation that you think of immediately, but it’s still time off from work…I’m back in the land of the true Yankees… (I say this because while I went to school in East TN I learned that according to them even hoosiers are considered Yankees because we are above the Mason Dixon line….this was odd to me of course, but I aint knockin it)
But yes- I guess you can call this a family vacation….when time you take off for those big events like weddings and graduations and family reunions….and though you know they may not take place in the idealic location of your choice, you know you are still going to have a blast because it’s a chance to reconnect with your family and friends that should be your family. That would be this week for me. this past weekend I got to see my grandma, aunt and cousin in Syracuse/Cazenovia area and this week I get to be a bridesmaid in my bestest/longest friends wedding (seriously, we’ve known each other since we were potty trained!).

PS- kudos to Alona frankel and other authors who have gone into that messy subject with bravery and a silly spirit! they deserve their own award
OK- I digress…
So I guess my purpose of this blog is to share things that I’ve learned/observed so far in my time away from not having to think about work…kinda like that one sunscreen song that came out in 99? I know I’m not as cool as Baz Lurmann…but I thought some things are worth sharing…
-when on a road trip- don’t ever play the ABC game by yourself. yes you may win all the time, but you catch yourself cheating a lot and making up your own rules halfway through the alphabet. and sidenote to businesses that deal with travelers, please use the letters j,q,z, k, and y more often. and thank goodness for the flying J!

- next time you are driving through Ohio, count how many blue and white ohio barns there are. it’s quite a few.
-there are horn-ed cows in Ohio! for realsies along i71 before Columbus! (I know they are called steer/long horns but the suburbia kid in me really doesn’t know that)
ok- enough with Ohio…I’ll move on…
- I don’t care how crazy your family is, be sure you take time out of your busy life and spend time with them. It has been 3 years since I last saw my grandma and I still kick myself to this day for letting the excuse of “I’m too busy at work” get the best of me. So if you are lucky enough to have family close by… take the time to appreciate it, because you really don’t know how lucky you are.

- windmills are the coolest ever!!! theyre all over the ridgelines in Morrisville, NY grabbing the winds from Lake Ontario/fingerlakes and converting it into awesome windpower energy! I think there are some in Northern IN, so if you get a chance seriously go check them out and do whatever you can to support these projects for greener energy! it’s so cool to see this technology in action!
real pics to come later!
-turkeys=hilariousness. we were driving from Morrisville back to Cazenovia and there was a turkey crossing the road ahead, we luckily slowed down and slightly swerved enough to miss it (Victoria we saved one to make up for you killing one the other day haha). then I looked back to watch it finish crossing the road and it took a dump! I think we litterally scared the crap out of a turkey!
-respect your elders. yeah I know Baz Luhrmann says this too…but it hit me hard this weekend. I won’t get into how it did…you can ask me that privately if you know me. all I ask of my generation is to learn from our elder’s triumphs and mistakes, and stop being so selfish overall.
- when packing- set out everything you think you need…then cut it in half. I’m still trying to learn this one…it has yet to sink in….haha!
- and finally- nostalgia is one of the most interesting double edged emotions you can feel. the longer you are away from a place the more idealic/dreamlike it becomes. Then to have that dream become reality yet again is always a shock, especially with your childhood home…the house you grew up in always shrinks, the landscape always changes, your favorite pancake place is gone, your old church isn’t as huge as you thought it was, and the theater that was brand new when you left looks so old you wonder what happened. Plus when you drive down your old street and see 6 houses with christmas lights still hanging from the porch it hits you that you can find a little bit of “country” wherever you go
.
Welp thats all I have so far, I’m sure more will come…like how horrible it is to stay up till 3am to write a blog…but hey- I was updating facebook and twitter, I might as well not leave yall hangin!
and yes- I’m on twitter now….still working out the kinks on that one. you can follow me at sarabeth3283! although I get frustrated with the 140 character limit…so don’t think I’ll be dropping this anytime soon…:)
have an awesome week! I heard the weather has been nasty there, and guess what it’s nasty here too so don’t be too jealous…its even worse when you are staying on a lake that can be so much fun when its warm with a jetski or a boat but no one is even out on it yet because it’s too cold. (once again that nostalgia is kickin in
Keep it Rockin yall!
