Yeah Yeah Yeah….

29 07 2009

I know- I haven’t blogged in ages…but I got the usual excuses to back me up I promise- things extra crazy at work, vacations, conferences, your face, my dog ate my cheese-its….you know, the usual stuff. Plus I haven’t noticed anything crazy in the fashion world recently so it makes for a dull blog for SB when people dress normal.

So I’ve recently have come to the conclusion that yahoo.com has a staff that is not all there upstairs. True, they have a great email/web interface and all that stuff- what I’m concerned about is their staff and who they have making the decisions to post certain articles….(and fashion choices too for that matter…but see earlier blogs for that arguement)

case in point….this article here was in their featured section:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090728/sc_afp/sciencearmsoffbeat

There it is folks- an article about the “mystery of swinging arms while walking”!

REALLY?

REALLY?

Did people really wonder about this? Was this the 8th wonder of the world that I apparently didn’t know anything about? If so- I would like to say thank you to the world for leaving me out of the loop.

But really? People spent oodles of moolah on this study? WHY? Now I’m no physics geek (my friends, family, and High School Physics teacher Mrs. Settle could tell you that) but common sense tells me that the reason you swing your arms while walking is for balance purposes. true it’s not as dire to swing your arms while walking like you need your big toe to balance, but it obviously keeps your body in some form of equilibrium (if that makes sense) when you swing your arms when walking.

It’s NATURAL! Plus it enhances a designer’s work when a model swings her arms on the runway, turns a brisk walk into a more complete body workout…and if you don’t swing your arms, you end up looking like Elaine’s Co-worker with Dead arms from the “Summer of George” episode of Seinfeld.

here’s the best part of the article…the intro!!! and I shall quote below:

“Swinging one’s arms comes at a cost. We need muscles to do it, and we need to provide energy in the form of food for those muscles. So what’s the advantage?

Little or none, some experts have said, contending that arm-swinging, like our appendix, is an evolutionary relic from when we used to go about on all fours.”

First line…OK- are we really that lazy of a society that worries about how arm swinging uses up our energy and burns calories?? Is someone really thinking “oh dang I moved my arm- so only 580 calories that I consumed at Burger King will be going to my spare tire instead of the full 600! oh no!!” good night people…and to the author of this article…please go back to college and learn how to write a better into to your thesis statement because that just made you sound dumb.

and the second line… once again really??? an evolutionary relic? Now I don’t mean to get into an evolution vs creation arguement (in which I side on creation in case you were wondering… :) ) but anyone…creationist or non-creationist… that has taken 15 minutes to look into evolution theories relizes that they make as much sense as a bathtub full of paperclips. yeah- not much use there! and obviously these so called experts skipped that day in elementary Gym class where they had to the bear crawl (walking on all fours) across the floor…it’s VERY un natural and to make that assumption that we ever did that is crazy.

So as the rest of the article goes…it’s pretty much your typical “research has found bla bla bla” stuff. So thank you researchers from U of M for all your hard work….but now lets focus on something like curing cancer or AIDs. I think I can speak for the alums of that institution that they would rather see their donations go towards something like that rather than arm swinging.

WOW! So I didn’t mean for this to turn into a crazy rant…but it did. oops! I just wanted to share a “what were they thinking?” moment with yall! hey- at least I posted something new for yall to read!

Have a great week! Until next time I blog…. (which may be another 6 months…haha)

Keep It Rockin!

Sara Beth :)
