SAGgy Fashion and other angry comments

So the Screen Actors Guild Awards were this weekend- and once again it’s time to judge the choices in fashion for these event. And overall- I thought the actresses did quite well! There were some choices that I thought were eehhh….but overall they were well dressed! Once again too- Yahoo’s choices for best and worst were WAY off! And I would show you- but the site won’t let me “commondere” the photos in an easy and efficient way….so you will just have to judge for yourself. if there is a dress from last night that you want me to comment on- let me know who’s it was and I will share my opinions with you on it.

I will share one that just makes  me mad as all get-out:

ANGELINA JOLIE!!!! what the hooeys are you WEARING???? I want to know who told you that cutting a hole in a piece of fabric and adding a belt is a great look for award shows!!! Because they deserve to be slapped! These dresses do NOTHING for you! You are gorgeous and you need to be wearing dresses that reflect your beauty that makes me want to vom occasionally. Really Brad?? this is the second award show you have been with her this year when she’s worn a sack and you are ok with this??? what brand of kool-aid are you drinking??

So yeah- I am over Angelina wearing drapes to award shows. I’m sure she will be at the oscars and if she shows up in another horrible dress and the press decides to love it i’m really going to be sick.

OK- my other complaint about the SAGs- and any other award show that gives TV show awards…..

Will you PLEASE give NBC’s “The Office” an award??? That show is hilarious….and as much as I love 30 Rock and watch it just as religiously as I do The Office (and thank you for the convienence of putting them back to back btw)….they have enough awards! The Office cast needs some recognition, and when it comes to originality of characters- Steve Carrell puts way more energy and effort into Michael Scott’s character than Alec Baldwin does for Jack Donaghey. It just seems like I’ve seen Alec Baldwin as that character type before. If you want to give an award to someone from that cast it should be Jack McBrayer (Kenneth) and Tracy Morgan (Tracy Jordan) for all their scenes together from this season…..hilarious!! (example- the episode with Steve Martin….”id feel safer if I had some saltines”)

I wanna be a rockstar…just for the clothes….

So is it bad that I might consider wearing this outfit? Of course I would wear a denim mini instead of nothing like Miley…

And I would also never wear it just to get groceries from Trader Joes……

But the “80’s baby Punk Rock Princess” in me is really loving this! At least the blue matches the bag which goes with the t-shirt! It matches, it’s funky, and If I was a rockstar this would totally be a staple outfit (with the denim mini of course)!

Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be a rockstar anytime soon- unless Guitar Hero becomes an olympic sport…..but even then the orange button on my guitar gets no love because I will forever be at medium level. Oh well. A girl can dream right? The correct answer to that is yes!

And if you still think i’m crazy…..lets put this into perspective…..would you rather be wearing the outfit above or be caught shopping around walmart with this problem?…..

I rest my case…..

Inauguration of fashion part deux

You guys are so lucky! two fashion blogs in two days!!! haha.

OK- my opinion of this white dress…..

I have to say it’s a great improvement from the east room curtain frock she wore earlier that day. and her shoes match too yay!

I guess I only have two problems with this dress. First is the shape. I like the full skirt- and I like the bust and waist- but where and how they come together is just wrong. It makes her hips look gi-normous! and since it is a white dress that doesn’t help the illusion either.

The Second- which is worse than the first….is what is up with those feather things??? once again- fine at the top and fine at the bottom- but why on the hip and waistline??? Once again- it draws too much attention to her waist and hipline! It makes the dress more like a chicken-like that first lady like. Jason Wu what you were thinking! He should have done a fade from the bottom to the waist with the feathers it would have been waaay better!

So even though it’s not amazing and gorgeous — it’s an improvement I must say.

I’m somewhat forming an theory with her too- So I’ve done some research on some of her previous outfits from the campaigning- and they are adorable! So it’s not that I think she has poor style- I think she’s just new to the “look at me” fashion scene. Before she didn’t have to worry about who she is wearing- just presentable…like many of us when we go to work or have a presentation. However- now that she is more in the spotlight- she’s now feeling the pressure to wear designer clothes and make a good impression on not only the public but the fashion world as well. Maybe it’s “designer shock?” Sure Hollywood stars have award shows and events out the wazoo to attend so they have plenty of time and practice to get a look right for the public. Michelle has only had a few that she’s needed a show stopping dress for. So she may have the cute sundresses and powersuits down but when it comes to high fashion events not much practice. So I guess I can let up on her for that.

Also- I’m sure it’s tough to find a designer dress that’s classy enough to be respected, youthful enough to be stylish, and practical enough to still appeal to the American public (a dress that says “hey I’m a hard working mom/wife/woman just like you”). Most designers’s clientell are hollywood stars who are just trying to see who can make the biggest splash however they may go about it. (please see the nastiness from the golden globes this past year)

So I’ve lightened up on her a bit- but it still doesn’t excuse the green shoes!!!!

Inauguration of fashion….

So I’m super excited about getting to write another fashion blog for yall- I thought I was going to have to wait until the SAG awards but NO! the fashion gods have blessed me with this “outfit”

Oh my goodness!! I don’t know where to start!!!! I guess from the beginning…..

So after my first blog about Michelle and her outfit from election night, I was really hoping she learned her lesson or it was just a fluke and that she would make up for it today. And before I saw the outfit- I was listening to the inauguration on the Sirius XM Fox News Channel while I was running errands for QMIX and the announcer said that Michelle looked great- I naturally got my hopes up in thinking that she had done better than the black and red disaster from election night…

Needless to say I was sadly disappointed when I saw the outfit. I’m sorry! I know a lot of people liked it…and it really is nothing against her! I’m sure she’s a great person and means well! But come on! I really do want to write a blog about how fabulous you looked at such and such event….but it just hasn’t happened yet!

OK- here are the things that are wrong-

1) TOO MUCH BROCADE!!!!- Don’t get me wrong- I love the fabric. but there’s a right way to do it and a wrong way. this would be the wrong way. Maybe if the coat wasn’t the same fabric or vice versa. But seriously- it looks like the designer stole the curtains from the east room in the white house and went Maria Von Trapp and designed this outfit from them:

(ps- I used this same reference in the last blog about future white house fashion….coinsidence? I think not!! haha)

2) TOO MUCH FUNKY YELLOW!- I don’t know why but I don’t like this shade on her…it’s odd on it’s own anyways. It looks murky or something. and when I first saw this pic I thought it made the skin under her eyes look yellow in the pic. not a good thing at all!

3) GREEN SHOES!!! SHE’S WEARING GREEN SHOES PEOPLE!!!! – Aaahhh! this angered me and BG the most! The only time one should do clashing shoes with an outfit is a) when there is a neutral inbetween said pieces (like a funky bright solid blouse, brown tweed skirt and fabulous bright heels of a complimentary color) or b) when the bright piece is enhancing a neutral outfit (I love the idea of a black dress with bright pink or funky color heels- or vice versa) NEVER EVER should you put a bright with a bright unless it coordinates. THESE DO NOT!!! That yellow is not neutral enough! (or was she thinking the green was the neutral??? I’m confused) She should have found a yellow or neutral light brown shoe. I would have even loved some all crystal glitter shoes to coordinate with her broach! OK- that might have been a bit much….probably some political activist would have thought that too extravagant or whatever. It would have been better than GREEN though!!!!

OK- with all that said- I will say she did finally listen to Tim Gunn’s rule of thirds…however the way this coat is hanging on her is not doing much for figure. She should have buttoned the coat up or something.

She DID also listen to my kitten heel rant from before! YAY!!!!

And maybe this outfit was just from the results of being a busy mom? because the Obama daughters were adorable!

Maybe she was so focused on getting their inauguration day coats that she didn’t have much time to get her’s together. Still- that does not excuse the green shoes!

So here’s hopin that Michelle Obama will wow us sometime within the next 4 years with a great “hey I’m the first lady!” outfit. Until then… bring on the funky outfits! haha.

Official Biggest Loser Workout Soundtrack!!

OK- so it’s not the TV show’s Soundtrack…so don’t get too excited. This one is even better! haha just kidding.

Let me go back a few thoughts….

First- Congratulations to our 10 Biggest Loser Contestants!! They were hand picked from over 100 applicants for the contest! So best of luck to you as you start your 8 week quest to get into the habit of a healthier lifestyle!

So part of that healthier lifestyle is working out. Whether that’s working out at a gym or running around the block…exercise is key. Now I wish I could say I’m awesome like Brittany Gray and Nikki G and go work out 3 times a week….but unfortunately they are more diciplined than me. There was a time when I was a gym junkie- but now it’s so easy to make excuses and fill up my evenings with random events like bible studies or family dinners. HOWEVER- there are a few times that I do get to make it to the gym and wear out an eliptical machine… and I’m so satisfied when I do so.

So in my efforts to encourage our 10 contestants (and anyone else trying to go to the gym more often…) I thought I would share the thing that gets me through my workout no matter what…..my workout PLAYLIST! It’s true- I wouldn’t last 10 minutes on the treadmill without my ipod. There’s just something about certain songs that just get me goin and give me that extra boost of energy to push me through to that second wind!

So- In the fashion of an Itunes celebrity playlist- I will share some “family friendly” workout songs in my mix.

“Let It Rock” – Kevin Rudolf feat. Lil Wayne- Soon will debut on QMIX airwaves….it’s just one of those songs that you could make an entrance to. On itunes you can get either the version with the Lil Wayne rap or without….without the rap is cleaner.

“Ladies and Gentlemen” Saliva – If you went to this previous year’s QMIX Musical Fireworks show, this song may sound familiar- as it was featured in the soundtrack. Another more rock edgy get you ready for your workout song that I love!

“Ignition” or “Momentum” TobyMac – Both of these are awesome! As one of my friends said about Ignition- I can do anything when this song is playing! And both you can blare without worrying about your little ones hearing bad things.

“Lights and Sounds” – Yellowcard – I love the beat to this one….the way it revs up in the beginning is great- keep it kinda close to the middle of your workout mix- it will help you push through to your second wind.

“Gotta Get Thru This” – Daniel Bedingfield- I think the title explains it well…..haha. Put this song towards the end of your workout when you are ready to give up but you know you shouldn’t

“Everyday Combat” – Lostprophets – When this song comes on- pretend you are some superhero gettin ready to kick some evil person’s bootie and save the world from mass distruction…and towards the end you are about to fall to the enemy but then you come back and take them down!!  It’s pretty sweet.

“Move Your Body” -Eiffel 65 – Now I would add pretty much any dance techno remix of a song  just because they get me going. Plus the lyrics are motivating for your workout.

“Try It Again” – The Hives- this is my push-up song. haha! or it’s a good song if you are doing an exercise that you just hate or have difficulty mastering….and it’s complete with cheering at the end!

“Stronger” Britney Spears- This one is more for the ladies. So she really hasn’t emulated strength in her career recently…but this song is a good “I am woman hear me roar” anthem.

“Supermassive Black Hole” - Muse- This one’s for all the twilight fans out there- the theme song to the baseball scene….you can pretend that you can keep up with the Cullens!

“Woman” Wolfmother – Another great get up and go rock out song….pretty much if the band sounds like they are rocking out—it’s on my workout playlist.

“Beat It” Fall Out Boy feat. John Mayer – I respect the original Michael Jackson version, but when I want to work out I prefer this one.

“Le Disko” Shiny Toy Guns – another one for the ladies! one of those rock/techno girl power songs I love! purchase the clean version however.

“Generation” Simple Plan- Anything off their newest album is great get ya going stuff. I love this one cause it’s sassy in the punk rock kind of way.

Well this is just a sampling of some of my tracks on my workout playlist. I hope you find some of them to help you out in creating the perfect playlist to motivate you to work out! If I come across some more I will post! I also suggest searching for dance mixes and covers of pop and rock songs—I love Punk Goes Crunk and that series. You will find some interesting covers!

Golden Globes Fashion…or not…

Yay I’m so excited! Award season is back and that means I get to write blogs about fashion!! I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I do writing them. Granted I really don’t have much expertise in the fashion world…but I like to think I’ve done enough shopping, magazine reading and watched enough Project Runway and Tim Gunn’s guide to style to have some sense.

Once again- I am completely in disagreement with most of yahoo.com’s choices for worst and best dressed. I mean really!! don’t they have any sense of style?? luckily I was watching the fashion wrap up last night and some of my opinions were shared on that show too…so yeah I was pretty excited about that.

Alrighty! time to start critiquing!!!

Oh Vanessa- Disney and every tween in the world may love you but I don’t. I cant believe Disney still kept you on the payroll after your naughty cell pics incident!yahoo loved this dress…I hate it. It reminds me too much of the naked glitery bodysuit britney spears wore in her “Toxic” video. hhmmm…coinsidence?

Next time Vanessa choose a dress that’s not the same color as your skin or go get a tan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Susan Sarandon- You rock as an actress but I’m sorry they really shouldn’t allow pants of any sort at awards functions like these. True you rocked them better than Glenn Close….but you are NOT …I repeat…NOT Katherine Hepburn! It’s been done. Now go back to the glamorous Hollywood we know and love please!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Renee Zellweger- What were you on when you thought this was a good idea? Didn’t you notice that the designer forgot to create the top half of the dress? Watching her was like watching an episode of project runway when the designer cant finish the dress in time so they slap something together in the last 5 minutes. Nasty!

I disagree with everyone though about her hair. I kinda like it. it is kinda prom-esque but at least it’s not like some people who completely forgot to do their hair for the show…..keep reading for those comments.

 

 

 

 

 

Miley Cyrus- Now she’s one from the Disney Kid Star Factory that I don’t hate as much. Even though the whole Hannah Montana craze is like whoa I think she has some good comedic timing.

Yahoo.com hated this dress. I don’t think it’s all that bad. The material underneath could almost be pillow shams but the stile is quite nice. although I wonder if Billy Ray knew that this is what she wore….I have a hunch he would have told her to put a sweater on because her girls are about to pop.

 

 

 

 

 

Megan Fox- Once again- this dress reminds me of prom. reminds me of my junior prom dress actually- but mine was navy and I don’t have any fugly tatoos of Marilyn Monroe on my forearm either. Seriously girl- at least have enough sense to get some concealer or start an arm-warmer trend! Even pay the photog to photoshop it out!

Heidi Klum- my theory behind this choice is all in her husband Seal. She was listening to Seal’s greatest hits and then Kiss from a Rose came on. She loved it so that she insisted on finding the most hideous dress with an ugly butt rose on the front of it. So thank you Seal for this piece of work….

“I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow….”

but not yellow snow- that’s bad for your health.

Yes- I am one of those wierd people that love snow! You bet I was super excited when there was snow on the ground thursday morning of this past week! Ya I know it wasn’t a whole lot, but isn’t the super cold weather more bearable with snow on the ground? I think it comes from spending my childhood in New York State and always seeing 2 feet of snow on the ground from November to end of March. I’ve been hoping for a big snow this winter so that I can get the sledding itch out of my system….which of course started when there was snow on the ground thursday am. and for those that hate snow- don’t worry- I’m only praying for a big weekend snow so it won’t affect your commute to work and it would be great to have it before valentines day (because snow after that is stupid). And if anyone else feels the same way I do maybe we can get together and do a snow dance or something!

On to something else…..

Did anyone else see Kate Hudson on the Letterman show the other night?? Holy Shnikes! What was she thinking??

Now I love Kate Hudson as an actress. She’s qwerky and funny and gorgeous all at the same time…and not affraid to make herself look stupid. and I always thought she was usually on it when it came to fashion….but what was she on when she agreed with her stylist that this was a great choice?? Drugs that expired in 1985? I really hope Rachel Zoe didn’t pick this for her! that might make me sad. Ick! thumbs down!

Thumbs up though for her new movie Bride Wars! It’s a very typical chick flick comedy….so it’s best to get your best girlfriends together and make a girls night of it. Be nice to the men in your life ladies and let them stay home for this one. Kudos to the 7 men that were in the theater at the showing I went to though!!

What? I have a blog??

Ok- you know you haven’t written a blog when you sign in to wordpress and your dashboard is way different than what it used to be and you can’t figure out how to start writing a new post!!!

I know- shame on me….it’s been a while. but you know things get crazy here at the radio ranch and sadly thats when the blog gets ignored. I’m sorry for negelecting it and the 27 people that check it everyday to see if anything is new. I hope you will forgive me!

I even had a list of topics that I’ve been wanting to blog about but didn’t have any time to do so!! So I think in effort to make up for that time…another random blog is in order! It’s only fitting to round out the year with I think (Happy New Years Eve btw!)

first- from the list….the new james bond movie Quantum of Solace.

 

I loved Daniel Craig and his beautiful blue eyes, and of course all the action and scenes of italy and other foreign places….but they forgot the designer dresses for the bond girls! It’s one of the few girly moments I look forward to in those movies and it wasn’t there. Sad face for me. So dear producers of future new James Bond Movies….please do not cut designer dresses for bond girls out of the budget to make room for the newest model of Mercedes or whatever car you want your male audience to get a car-gasm over. they are one of the essential elements. Thank you!

next- Folks that mis-spell Sara(h). It’s one of those things that grinds my gears. OK- I understand if you don’t know me or don’t have a reference to check and see if my name is spelled with an h or not. But goodness! If you know someone that’s got a name that can be spelled in many ways please ask them how to spell it! and if you can please remember that spelling for future reference! It just annoys me when people have a reference, like something I signed or documents that have my name spelled correctly and then go misspell it anyway. Just be courtious. Ok- mini rant stopped.

A must need for every womans life…something sparkly. and no I’m not talking about just diamonds. yes those are sparkly but there are cheaper ways to bling without spending the money. My favorite sparkly thing right now are my new Chuck taylors that I got for Christmas!!! Yes you heard me!

They are perfect for a punk rock princess such as me!

And Lastly…..Twilight. yes. I just finished book 1 of the series. and I have some interesting thoughts about this. We have been debating this book in our free moments here at QMIX….with BG not being super crazy about the book but still likes reading it anyway (she calls it “word crack” because it’s so addicting) and then there’s Nikki G who is obsessed with the series and would marry Robert Pattinson in a heartbeat if he wore the vampire paint everyday. (sorry if that is an exaggeration, but you did just inform me over the cubicle wall that he got a new haircut and looked really hot….nuff said…don’t worry i’m not judging)

As for myself….I think I’m in the middle. First- the book is way better than the movie. I agree with Nikki in that Rob is the most redeeming quality of the film. I saw it before reading the book and saw all the potential in the story of it being a really good film….but it wasn’t. I’m sorry. Stephenie Meyer- please hire a better movie crew for your next one. oh and hire someone else to play BELLA! like me! because I could do a better job with the little acting experience I had in high school than she ever could! blah!! it made me sick!

ok- enough about the movie. as for the book- it was fun to read. there were moments I wanted to gag, but then I had the moments too when I reverted to being a middle school awkward girl wishing a boy would look at me the way Edward did Bella…..

And with that said….Warning to all the tweens and teens out there who are creating all these expectations of boys to be that of Edward Cullen…..Please stop!! No boy especially at your age will be as thoughtful as Edward Cullen. You will be lucky if you find one with 20% of that sweetness. Remember- Edward has been 17 for 90 years….he’s taken notes! and he’s a freakin vampire!!! he could eat your face!! so stop. that’s all I ask. and I’m only saying this because if this book was out when I was a tween I would be greatful if someone told me to stop putting expectations like that on boys…because I so would have! haha!

So there ya have it. a very random blog to wrap up 2008. Maybe I’ll make a resolution to blog more? haha.

I’ve started the search for Investors…..

Because I have this amazing idea inspired by Nikki G’s Discovering Columbus….She interviewed The Ashley Bed and Breakfast…you can check it out on our website….

I’ve always wondered when I hear the phrase Bed and Breakfast….what about lunch and dinner??? Or is there any other furniture in this said establishment? Do they just kick you out once breakfast is over? What if you have no place to go after breakfast??

Here’s the solution….next to every Bed and Breakfast establishment I am going to build a “Dinner and Chair”! (Chair and dinner doesn’t have the same ring to it….) When you are done eating at the bed and breakfast of your choosing you can move over to the Dinner and Chair….enjoy a very comfy Sofa chair….

…maybe watch a movie, take a nap, favorite TV show marathon, read a book, anything you would do in a big comfy chair….and then when dinner rolls around you are served dinner in chair!! It’s a couch potato’s dream! of course after dinner you will have to go back to the Bed and breakfast because we don’t offer that kind of furniture or type of food….plus we don’t want to take business away from the B&B’s of this world.

I think I’m really on to something here!! Let me know your thoughts!!!

OK In other SBC News….

So I’ve reviewed fashion and music….I think a movie or two….but I think today I would like to share my thoughts on Columbus’s latest establishment….Culvers!

I went there for the first time since it opened today for lunch- I just went through the drive thru- but even then I feel that the Columbus folks can learn something from my experience today:

-Parking Lot- kinda tight….especially when it’s busy. beware! drive it like a granny!

-Since they make the burgers right when you order them, it will take a bit longer to sit through the drive thru than the usual drive thru pit stop. SO—
          a) make sure you have ample time to sit and wait if you need to be back somewhere….
          B) PLEASE utilize the spots in front and along the side of the drive thru to wait for your order after you’ve paid and recieved your drink! that’s what they are there for….you will recieve a number and the Culver’s folks will come find you i promise!

-So the actual food….I took my first bite of the burger…..and I think I gained 10lbs instantly!! Ya- they are that good and that GREASY!!! You know those subway commercials with the “can my butt get any bigger meal deals”? yeah I think I ate part of one of those today.

So beware! if you are trying to lose weight….they might not be the best option. yes they have salads….but really who goes to a burger joint for a salad? I don’t. If you are lucky and don’t have to worry about your weight and/or just want a great burger….then these are for you!!!

So there are my thoughts on Culvers….I will be back to try their Ice cream, but it will be hard to live up to my love for Ritters. mmmm! PS- if you ever need to get on my good side- send a dish of Turtle Something or Chocolate Covered Banana my way and I am yours for the next 20 minutes! (or as long as it takes me to eat the ice cream)

OK time to stop dreaming about ice cream and get back to work….and you too! Unless you are planning on running to Ritters to get me some ice cream then you can do that too.

Obama Mama Fashion Drama

How can I be a proper Fashion Editor without voicing my opinion on the latest fashion “crisis?”

That’s what I thought…..

Oh Michelle……

first of all-I do not mean to criticize the original designer Narciso Rodriguez—the original dress from his Spring 2009 line is posted on the right and after seeing this I understand where he was going with this dress. So Mr. Rodriguez…..this blog is not to offend you.

However…I’m sorry but the modified dress on the soon to be first lady is just wrong. and here’s the list of reasons why…..

1.) The black side “panels” of the dress make her hips look twice as big as I’m sure they really are….plus it looks like her hip comes to a corner! That’s just not normal.

2.) I know black is supposed to make you look slimmer but that band around the waist/bust area is not doing that at all! it’s not really don’t that for the model either who is a size -5, so why as a woman with more curves than a stick model choose these lines?

3.) the red tummy “panel”- I’m sorry- it makes me gag. can we say pooch enhancer? and the way it’s placed….the original dress makes better sense….although even that could draw too much attention to the tummy.

Also- Style Expert Tim Gunn says to always dress yourself in thirds….and to not cut your body in half.  The Original dress displays the thirds idea very nicely…..and the remake Michelle is wearing could have done that too….but the red is drawing the eye to cut the body in half and it’s just not good!

4.) The thing that irks me the most in the fashion world is….kitten heels. Especially ones like she’s wearing!!! How can anyone balance on that?? it makes my cankle hurt just looking at those. Now if she has a thing where she can’t wear higher heels due to medical reasons then I will forgive her….but if you don’t, please! commit to a 2 inch or higher heel or don’t bother at all!! besides- it might have helped the dress- just a thought.

(ps- I miss my fun shoes….since the cankle incident I have been forced to choose outfits based on my Birkenstock Boston Clogs. I love them don’t get me wrong….but the rest of my shoe collection is feeling very neglected now and I am sad for them….)

5.) I will give Michelle kudos for the cardigan. I think if she didn’t have it the look would have looked extremely trashy and the farthest from first lady you could go! It kept the dress in the age appropriate category.

Having said all that….why hasn’t anyone said anything about Mrs. Biden’s suit?

Eewww Ewww ewww. It looks like a bowl of spilt pea soup is about to choke her. There are so many colors of the rainbow…..why this one? And the material looks like drapes….did someone take a note from Maria Von Trapp from the Sound of Music? I’m sorry- that fad died in 1960. if it ever was one….

at least she is following the heel rule…
